Exploring
Poor Hank had to spend his Thursday off from school feeling crummy. By Friday morning, poor guy had a fever 🤒 We nestled in for a full day of snuggles and studying, certain our weekend was going to be spent at home. However, by 7:30 pm his fever broke 👏 Must have been a 24 hour bug, which makes this momma happy because I hate to see him sick ☹️ We spent the last bit before bed pulling all the cushions off the couch to jump on, dump out every bin of toys in each room of the house, and reading 18 books (some more than once 🤦♀️🤣). We made up for lost time 🤪 At one point, I was peeling mandarins for a snack and he comes over, picks up the peel, looks at the mandarin, and goes, “The 🍊 went through a metamorphosis” 👀🤦♀️🤣 Yep, I’m in trouble 😂
Saturday, we intended to wake up early and hit the road, but Hank came to moms bed for more snuggles and books, so we were a little behind the ball when we headed out to pick fruit at Annie’s Apple Orchard in Willcox. Right when we pulled up he’s like, “Look, a gift shop!” 🤦♀️ So, after we cruised the goods and Hank came out with a whole farm set and magnetic dress the pony toy 🙄, we drug our treasures around the orchard picking apples 🍎. Turns out, if we had to feed ourselves on fruit trees, we’d starve 😂 Neither of us were impressed trudging through tall grass, ant piles, and AZ heat just to get some measly apples 🤷♀️ We’ll stick to the grocery store (which may or may not deliver to our house 😬😅) 🤘💗
Next, we drove from Willcox to Chiricahua National Monument (don’t ask, I have no idea how to pronounce 😂). Talk about a beautiful drive - breathtaking! Tractors, cattle, wide open roads, mountains on one side, miles of plains on the other, and green green green!!! Would love to live here!!
When we got to the monument, the main road was closed, but we still could see some of it from a distance and we stopped at the Ranger Station for more treasures and a map, which we used to go on a two mile hike 🙌👏👏👏 In our sandals and crocs because mom took our tennis shoes out of the car to wash and never put them back 🙄🤦♀️🤣
After that, we went to Ft. Bowie because, why not?! Well, I’ll tell you why… turns out it quickly turns into a windy twisty off road adventure 😅 About 3 miles and a half hour in, I start freaking out because we’ve seen nobody and I only have a flat spare in my trunk 🤦♀️, not that I’d know how to change it 🤦♀️🤦♀️, and I highly doubt State Farm roadside assistance is coming to the rescue. 😬😅 7 miles and an hour later, we make it to our destination which is - Tada! Nothing 😂😂 A few bricks 🧱 that were a building forever ago 🤣🤣 So we continued on our way, which of course was a normal dirt road on the opposite side (probably where normal people enter and exit 😂).
Then, it says handicap access, so I’m like, maybe we missed something. Those bricks couldn’t be all of it 🤔 I mean, at this point we’re committed, it’s this far, so what the heck 🤷♀️ Let’s check it out! So up the windy road we go, which is impossible to turn around from, and we reach the top, where the dilapidated Ranger Station is 🫤 Total Chainsaw Massacre vibes, so of course, I wake Hank up and we start up the stairs. When we get to the top- Tada! It’s nothing again 🤦♀️😂 I’m a bit wigged out so we book it to the SUV and get the heck out of dodge!!
That was all we could handle for one day, so we drove the 2.5 hours home, where we happily hung out with the neighbor and went to bed early 😮💨💗
Sunday, we went to 9:30 church, which actually started at 9:15, so that was special, but I’m nothing if not committed, so in we went!! This time I was prepared after last weeks out burst, with a goodie bag and treats. He loved it! And made sure to tell everyone all about it, during service, very loud 🤦♀️ “mmmm I love goldfish pretzels!!” He then looks at the Bible’s and YELLS, “This book is different than that one!! These ARE NOT THE SAME” 🤣 I’m like, “shhhh, quiet voice”, and he’s like, “shhh. Use YOUR QUIET VOICE MOM” 🫣🫠 Must have spent too much time with his brother 🤪
After that, we went to see Vail because I’m told it has excellent schools. We weren’t sure what to think. It was OK. Very deserty over there, but outside of the city, so that is a plus. But, while we were there, we saw a sign for Colossal Cave Mountains, so of course, we wandered over and up the mountain!! It was pretty!! So, we bought tickets and did the cave tour 👏👏 Hank did great! Mom, not so much 😅 I panicked a couple of times, but was able to keep my cool 😎 Turns out, caves are not so much my thing 🥴 I am glad to be above ground!! Had so much fun with my adventure buddy and I already wish it was next weekend!! 😍😘
